You can verify ownership of your website by adding a meta tag supplied by Google to your site builder.
Add your website to Google Search Console
- Go to Google Search Console and sign in to your Google account.
- Click Add property.
- Click on Add a website.
- Select URL prefix.
-
Enter the complete published address of your website, including
https://. For example:https://www.example.com/ - Click Continue.
The HTML tag verification method is only available for URL-prefix properties. It is not available if you select the Domain property type.
Copy the Google verification tag
- Under Other verification methods, select HTML tag.
-
Google will provide a meta tag similar to this:
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="your-verification-code" /> - Click Copy to copy the complete tag.
Keep Google Search Console open, as you will need to return to it after publishing your website.
Add the tag to your website
- Log in to your site builder.
- Click the Pages panel at the top of the editor.
- Click Site Scripts.
- Find the field labelled Head scripts.
- Paste the complete Google verification meta tag into this field.
- Save your changes.
Publish your website
Click the Publish button to publish your changes.
The verification tag must be present on the published website. Saving the change without publishing it will not allow Google to detect the tag.
Complete the verification
- Return to Google Search Console.
- In the HTML tag section, click Verify.
- Google should confirm that ownership has been verified.
If Google cannot find the tag immediately, check that the website has been published and that the URL entered in Search Console exactly matches the published website address. You can then try again.
Do not remove the meta tag after verification, as Google may check it again in the future.
