You can manage your website languages from the Pages panel in the Site Builder.
Before you begin
The default language is determined by the language of your Site Builder.
For example:
- If your Site Builder interface is set to English, the default language will be English (EN).
- If your Site Builder interface is set to French, the default language will be French (FR).
The language of your website content does not affect the default language setting.
If the wrong language was set as the default language when multilingual functionality was enabled, you'll need to change the default language before adding your additional languages.
Find your current default language
- In the Site Builder, click the Pages panel located in the top toolbar.
- At the top of the Pages panel, you'll see a language pill displaying a flag and language code.
This language pill indicates your current default language.
Change the default language
Important: You must have at least two languages on your website before you can change the default language.
Step 1: Add a temporary language
- Open the Pages panel.
- Click the language pill (for example, EN).
- Select Add language.
- Choose a temporary language that you do not intend to use on your website, such as Ancient Greek.
- Complete the language creation process.
Once finished, your website will have at least two languages.
Step 2: Open language management
- Return to the Pages panel.
- Click the language pill again.
- Select Manage languages.
Step 3: Change the default language
- Locate your current default language (for example, English).
- Click the ellipsis (⋮) menu beside it.
- Select Change default.
- Choose the language that should become the new default (for example, French).
- Click Save.
Step 4: Remove the temporary language
After the default language has been changed successfully:
- Return to Manage languages.
- Locate the temporary language you added earlier (for example, Ancient Greek).
- Delete it.
Your website now uses the correct default language.
Add a new language
Once your default language is correct, you can add additional languages to your website.
Step 1: Start the language creation process
- Open the Pages panel.
- Click the language pill.
- Select Add language.
Step 2: Select a language
- Choose the language you want to add (for example, Spanish).
- Click Next.
Step 3: Select pages to copy
- Choose the pages you want to include in the new language.
- Click Next.
Step 4: Name the new pages
You'll be asked to provide names for the translated pages.
Click Next to continue.
Step 5: Complete creation
The new language version of your website will be created.
You now have a secondary language available on your site.
Important notes
Content is not translated automatically
Adding a language creates copies of your pages, but the Site Builder does not automatically translate your content.
You'll need to:
- Switch to the newly created language.
- Open each page.
- Translate the content manually.
Plugin pages are only available in the default language
Pages generated by plugins are currently only available in the default language, including:
- Store
- Bookings
- Blog
Plugin translations are not currently supported.
